The cold air reached inside of my head as we walked in the snow just before dawn. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. We walked the pathway to give our prayers to the sun. It was a feeling that was so ancient my bones ached. Tiny rays of light danced over the horizon and warmed my forehead. There were mostly women passing on the trail; the men were down below. The spirit realm was all around us, but no one spoke. It was personal and all about family.

Thank you, Mother Earth, for the air I breathe, the ground I walk on, the silence in the night, the cold wind on my face and the bright colors of spring. I recognize these are your gifts and I am grateful. My heart is filled with love as I send rays of love to my inner core; I also send rays of love deep down into the ground, filling you, Mother Earth, with my gratitude. May I create peace upon your land and care for you the way I care for my children and loved ones. May I walk softly so that I might hear your song and celebrate in your beauty each and every day.
